Bus Behavior Rules and Expectations

A picture of a Puyallup School District school bus

As we begin the school year, we want to remind families that school buses are an extension of the school environment. The same expectations that help create safe, respectful learning environments at school also help ensure a safe and positive experience while traveling to and from school.

Students are expected to follow the bus driver’s directions, treat drivers and fellow students with respect, and avoid behavior that could district the driver or create an unsafe environment.

This includes expectations for personal electronic devices. Just as during the school day, students should keep cell phones and other personal electronic devices put away while riding the bus unless directed otherwise by a staff member. Keeping devices put away helps students remain aware of their surroundings and helps drivers maintain a safe environment for everyone.

We appreciate families taking a few moments to review these expectations with their students. When expectations are not followed, schools staff and Transportation will work together to address concerns, which may include consequences related to bus-riding privileges.

For additional information about bus safety, including loading and exiting the bus, student conduct and electronic devices, please visit our Bus Behaviors Rules page.
